The Geopolitical Chessboard: India's Dilemma in the Face of Western Powers

Image
(Source - X White House handle)  India, as a nation, has delusions of grandeur. Nothing can be more mendacious than its sense of self-importance. It is essential to underline that no Asian or African country could ever develop to become a developed nation without the support of US-led Western Cacausian powers in the last hundred years. Only a handful of countries in Asia could achieve the levels of human development Western countries possess.  The dramatic impact of Western powers on people, culture, and nations can be understood by observing the contrast between South and North Korea. The former is a wealthy and highly advanced economy, and the latter is a poor third-world country. And the difference between the two is Western support. Similarly, many nations in the ASEAN region have made spectacular economic strides in the last few decades. It can also be emphasized that all United States allies could not economically benefit from the Western alliance. However, that reflects...

Temple Politics and Electoral Gambits: Modi's Strategy for 2024

Image
( Source - X @narendramodi) The demolition of Babri Mosque in Ayodhya marked the culmination of a long struggle of Hindus to take back the site from Muslims. Hindus believe that the Ram temple at Lord Ram's birthplace was demolished by Mir Baqi, the Uzbek commander of Mughal ruler Babar. Remarkably, Hindus have been contesting with authorities and the Muslim community for the last five hundred years. There are not many disputes over a piece of land that has survived for this long. BJP launched the movement to take back the site of Babri Mosque. They had a political motive, but it would be unfair to claim that they could imagine the success of their project. On 6 December 1991, the Babri Mosque was demolished. Interestingly the seeds of demolition were sown with the partition of India in 1947. The Muslim population in undivided India was too high, and Muslims were united against Hindus despite their ethnic, sectarian, linguistic, and regional differences. And their faith-based unity...

Debating Ayodhya: Liberals' Perspectives on the Ram Temple

Image
Source - X @ @ErikSolheim There is no doubt Modi is behind building the great Ram temple in Ayodhya. Not only the temple, but he is also investing billions of dollars in building Ayodhya city as the center of the Hindu faith, and this newly built holy city will be as important as Varanasi and Haridwar in its religious significance. The presence of the Saryu River also adds to the charm and the potential of Ayodhya to emerge as another center of the Hindu faith and Holy men.  A lot has been written about the controversy surrounding the birthplace of Lord Ram. Liberals argue that he is a mythological character. Others with no courtesy towards Hinduism call Ram a comic character and outrightly dismiss the faith and devotion of the masses. They also dismiss the reports of the ASI (Archeological Survey of India) as nonserious findings and describe the Muslim officers behind the excavations as government stooges.  Left-leaning liberals oppose the Ayodhya temple on the following grou...

Why was Huawei targeted by the US? Is it the end of globalization?

Image
First, how do countries develop and become rich? It is important to find the answer to this question. Then, one will automatically receive the answer to why the US targeted Huawei. The simple answer to the former question is to invest heavily in education, research, and innovation and ultimately create large brands to do business globally. China has done exactly that in the last three decades .  The CCP, despite all the cruelty it can commit against people who try to challenge its authority, invested heavily in education. Now, the top Chinese universities are comparable to Western institutions. Primary education is accessible to all citizens. CCP has also attracted the best talent and allowed meritocracy to rise.  Huawei is the perfect example of the Chinese people's hard work and perseverance in achieving greater heights as a nation. Just three years ago, Huawei posed a challenge to Apple and Samsung in manufacturing amazing mobile sets. In developing 5G technology, as p...

Infrastructure on the LAC and the Future of Sino-Indian Relations

Image
Source - X (formerly twitter) The long-term impact of rapid infrastructure development at the Line of Actual Control (LAC) by the Indian and Chinese governments can only be positive. China started developing infrastructure at the border at breakneck speed long before the Indian government decided to prioritize it. Over the decades, the Indian government has made an implausible argument that building roads closer to LAC is not a sensible idea. The official position was that if India built roads closer to LAC and forgot any other form of modern connectivity, it would benefit the enemy, meaning China, in the event of war or any armed conflict. Our policymakers displayed remarkable short-sightedness. The Modi govt finally prioritized the construction of roads near LAC, but contrary to popular belief, the present govt also created merely a single-lane road in the arduous Himalayan mountains of Ladakh and large parts of Arunachal Pradesh are still inaccessible. It is too little too late f...

Bilawal in India: A Minor Actor in Pakistan’s Military Script

Image
By Mukesh Devrari There is a lot of discussion around the Pakistani foreign minister’s visit to India, but no one is talking about it honestly. This visit must be looked at from two angles. The first is Pakistan’s domestic politics. Right now, it has three major players. First is the PTI led by Imran Khan. Second is the Pakistan Muslim League (N), which the former PM Nawaz Sharif controls. The third most crucial political outfit, the Pakistan People’s Party, is controlled by Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s family. The PPP is almost like a family-run business with a strong base in Sindh. Imran Khan was the Prime Minister of Pakistan until he fell out of favor with the military and was removed from his position. Though the military did not intervene directly, it managed his ouster from behind the curtain. Since then, a sulking Imran Khan has tried to project his confrontation with the military as a personal feud between himself and former Army Chief General Bajwa for the public’s consumption,...

Why Punjab Feels Cornered: A Reality Check on Justice and Equality

Image
By Gursewak Singh Toor There are many causes of unrest in Punjab. It starts with Punjab's rights regarding Chandigarh and Punjab's waters. According to international law, Punjab's free-flowing waters belong to Punjab, but still, Rajasthan, Haryana, and Delhi are receiving this natural resource free of cost. Even during British times, the princely states used to pay Punjab for water. The killings of innocent people by the state in 1947, 1966, 1984–1995, and the ongoing drug genocide from 2000 till today remain unresolved. Sikh prisoners are still in jail after 30+ years, and many have not been released even after serving their sentences. Many youngsters have also been jailed on dubious charges or for simply saying "Khalistan" or for other minimal allegations. They are not being released. Meanwhile, culprits of the Gujarat riots in 2002, including rapists, are getting bail on the grounds of good character and moral behavior. Powerful individuals like Ram Rahim, invo...
